The Porkenstein Competition Barbecue team was formed in 2005 out of our love of good barbecue. We had no grill or smoker at all until we watched barbecue week on the Food Network. We started out on a small, inexpensive offset smoker. We learned the techniques quickly and soon had a desire to try our hand at competition. We finished 4th overall in our first competition and were hooked. We competed in the Backyard Division in one contest in 2005 and six in 2006. Because of our success in the Backyard Division we have decided to move up to the pro category in 2007. In 2007 we competed in several pro category events with our best finish being 16th in chicken and 24th in ribs at Opryland out of 78 teams.

We competed in 6 backyard events in 2006 with awards in 5 of the 6 including 2 Grand Championships. We are now focusing on our catering and food festival business.
